Sarah's story is so interesting, how she responded to COVID and what she is doing now is very exciting. The pressures on the traditional high street are well documented, and massively compounded by COVID. Now who knows what the future of retail and our high streets will be. I think Sarah may well have a business model that not only gives shoppers a fabulous experience, it also provides small and start up businesses affordable retail space with lots of support. Could this be the future for the small town high street? Listen to Sarah's story and find out more about how Duck in Boots works.
Helen's story is a really interesting one, and I suspect many people will resonate with her experiences. Helen put in a lot of hard work and clinical hours to gain her qualifications and the knowledge she needed to be able to effectively help people. However at that time there was almost zero help around what was needed to run your own business. It is interesting to listen to the challenges Helen faced, how she overcame them, and what she would do differently now. Lots of information on what a Nutritional Therapist does and how they might help you as well. This is a couple of small business owners using the technology available to them, and this time we had a bit of connection issues so it dips occasionally but soon is back,, plus Bella my dog joining in at one point! Real life stuff. Stick with it as Helen is worth the effort!!
I really enjoyed my chat with Rachel this week. It was a big catch up for us.
Rachel was incredibly generous with her time and shared some really useful insights advice and tips that will help us all create the online presence we desire.
This is well worth taking the time to listen and find those golden nuggets.
Ash is our IT, and fix all things technical support guy. Both Darren and I think he is invaluable to our business. He is a problem solver and fixer, we particularly love his no nonsense approach, and that he explains things in such a way we understand.
He believes that IT and computing should make our lives easier, and Intercounty Computers ensures our IT does exactly that.
PS there might be the odd swear word. But it is worth burning your ears a bit for the great advice and tips!!
Holly's business HBVA Services is possibly one of the younger small businesses we have featured to date. It is for that reason I think Holly's story will resonate with so many women who would really like to take advantage of the flexibility you can achieve running your own business whilst bringing up a young family. I have nothing but admiration for Holly's focus, tenacity and courage. She is a dame good VA as well.
I have known Sue for possibly three or so years now, and we have worked together a couple of times. We also pre COVID tried to catch up over coffee when we could in Sudbury. I am a big fan of The Thrive Programme, and did it about ten years ago, it is very practical and empowering, providing all the support you need to take control of your life and how you live it. Sue is also an experienced and excellent Councillor who has used the Thrive methods to create the life she wants in an inspiring way.
I have loved chatting to Darren, his story is so interesting. Discussing how Graphic Design has changed and how he turned adversity into a thriving business 14 years ago. Which I think is particularly relevant at this time now COVID has sent us into a recession, and many people are facing redundancy or having to completely re-think what they can do with their business. Check Darren's story out, it might just give you the confidence to go for it with something you have always wanted to do.
Let me introduce you to Karen Broughton of KB Virtual Services. I have known Karen for about three years now, and Karen is an experienced and professional VA. Karen always describes herself as an introvert (you would never know if you met her) and has shared how she pushes herself to do the things in business that unnerve her including this Podcast. Check out Karen's story here.
It is my pleasure to introduce you to John Wiseman Director at Wyzkey Ltd who provide IT system support to small businesses that increasingly rely on technology but do not have an in house support staff to maintain it effectively.
John has so much knowledge and experience, and was incredibly generous with the time and expertise he shared with us here. This is well worth a listen.
An introduction to how I got started in business and how the Acorn Club came about.
